Dear Friends of TJ,
There is no more important mission for our public schools than to educate our youth and provide them the skills necessary to solve the very complex issues facing both our country and the world. For over twenty-five years, Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology (TJ), one of the finest public schools in our nation, has produced first-rate thinkers in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) who have the leadership skills that are critical for solving many of today’s toughest problems.
The School’s long awaited renovation is now well underway. Public funds allocated toward improving TJ’s aged building have not covered the cost of the specialized equipment and infrastructure needed by TJ’s unique, research-driven program. Nor have public funds payed for the collaborative cyber network (JCIRN) that TJ plans to use to work closely with leading scientists and institutions, as well as for outreach to young students.
The bold mission of the Campaign for TJ is to transform the School so it is ready to serve the next generation of learners. Campaign funds have begun to outfit the school’s research facilities with the state-of-the-art equipment and technology that will allow TJ students not only to expand their boundaries, but to collaborate with and inspire other students in our region and beyond. These needs are ongoing and will extend well beyond the completion of the renovation. In addition, because TJ has always been more than a STEM school, the Campaign also aims to improve athletic facilities and set up a fund for major humanities/arts purchases.
TJ is a great success story for Fairfax County, the greater Washington D.C. region, and the State of Virginia. As an incubator of future STEM leaders so critical to this country’s educational mission, it is nothing short of a national treasure. Your investment in TJ will build on its phenomenal success, and provide the School with the continuous support and improvement that it needs to stay on the cutting edge and to inspire the next generation of leaders and problem-solvers.
With their outstanding leadership gifts, Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, and Cisco Systems became the Campaign’s first Jefferson Founding Partners. Yext, an alumni-founded company, joined them this year. Other corporations and foundations, current and past parents, grandparents, alumni, and friends have made gifts and pledges to support the Campaign, which has raised over $5 million to date. Pledges can be fulfilled in installments, and there are numerous Recognition Opportunities available, including a place on our Campaign Wall of Honor for donors who have contributed $5,000 or more.
Please join me, and the many individuals and corporations who have already made a commitment to support our School, by making a gift to the Campaign. It is an investment in the TJ of tomorrow that will pay off for decades to come.
Thank you for your support.
