Alums Get Together Outside of Reunions
They Hang Out With Alums From Other Classes Too
Getting Together In Person
NYC: Brent Metz, TJ ’98, Co-Founder and CEO of Felix, an online advertising engine, hosted about 50 NYC-area alumni at his office’s rooftop deck in Times Square on September 10th. The deck, with terrific Manhattan views, was a lovely backdrop for conversation and networking. TJ Partnership Fund representatives also made sure alumni heard about TJ’s renovation and Campaign (photo courtesy Brent Metz).
LA: An LA-area afternoon alumni social, planned by Danny Kim, TJ ’10, brought together about 50 alumni on September 21st at The Counter, a casual restaurant in downtown LA. Kim arranged for TJ merchandise to be available, and TJ Partnership Fund sent along Campaign materials (photo courtesy Anne Toth, TJ ’89, who came down from the Bay Area to see her LA friends.)
Jason Hintz Llopis, TJ ’89, has just taken on the position of TJ Partnership Fund Alumni Association Board Regional Coordinator, which is a long way of saying that he wants to help alumni get together wherever they find themselves, from Boston to Miami. So contact Jason at firstname.lastname@example.org if you want to meet people, your business is hiring, you have a fantastic venue to suggest, or you have any other ideas for an alumni meet-up in your town.
Socializing Via Social Media
For those alumni who still haven’t joined the TJHSST Alumni group (or the group for their TJ class, or both) on Facebook — and for those parents and friends who are just curious to know what those wacky alumni are up to — here is a selection of actual posts that appeared this fall:
“…there are those outliers among our proud nerd crew who pursue careers in classical music. . . We’re running a Kickstarter to help fund our series of concerts in the DC area in November ..”
“Are any Alums Patent Attorneys and in the DC area? Can I buy you a very nice lunch and pick your brain? May even lead to some business.”
“Are there any spider experts among you who would like to be interviewed by a group of elementary scientist/engineer girls?”
“Has anyone been through or is anyone currently in an accelerator program (YC, TechStars, etc.) or know someone who has?”
“I have been tutoring 2 boys (8th grade and 10th grade) for about half a year. . . Due to my schedule, I can no longer tutor them.”
“Hi All – ’02 grad here. My current company, VBrick, is in the process of launching a new cloud based video management platform and is looking for several people to join us in our Herndon VA HQ.”
“Hey everyone, ’94 alum here. For any geeks out in the Bay Area: ShareThis is hiring for a bunch of positions . . .”
