Two-Story Research Lab Wing Opening Fall 2014
More is changing at TJ than its physical space.
TJ students aren’t the only ones staying up late and rising early in order to squeeze more work into the day. Construction on TJ’s renovation is proceeding around the clock as workers ready two stories of brand new research lab space for a move expected to take place before the start of the 2014-2015 school year.
When the new labs open, the former CAD Lab will boast expanded elective offerings under its new name, “Engineering Design Lab,” and a popular new lab choice, the “Mobile & Web App Development Lab,” will be available. In addition, elements of the planned collaborative research network (JCIRN) are already being tested by students and faculty.
The Campaign for TJ has seen tremendous growth throughout this fall and winter.
Campaign volunteers have been busy distributing materials at PTSA meetings, information nights, and performances and organizing a variety of special events, including Korean-interpreted lab tours and celebrations of Diwali, celebrated by many Indian families, and Lunar New Year, celebrated by many Chinese and Vietnamese families. The Campaign has reached out not only to current parents, but also to past parents, who appreciate the value of a TJ education and are committed to ensuring the school’s future. Alumni are now contributing in larger numbers, and the Alumni Association’s just-completed linkage with the Partnership Fund will result in more alumni participation in Campaign activities. Alumni have always been devoted to TJ, and the PF is working with alumni volunteers to deepen and broaden that relationship.
As a direct result of these generous donations, the Partnership Fund was able to give the School its first Campaign grant, for $285,000, last fall and its second, for $670,000, by far the largest grant in PF history, in February. Given the lengthy procurement process for major purchases, the Administration and Lab Directors are thrilled to be in a position to begin placing orders now.
Despite the good news, there is more to be done. The Research Lab Campaign Needs List includes another $2M worth of equipment, maintenance contracts, and training sessions; software licenses; upgraded lab furniture; and technology awaiting funding. In addition, the School has an extensive IT/JCIRN Needs List and a plan to fund turf fields and plumbed bathrooms for its athletic program.
If you haven’t yet made your Campaign for TJ contribution, please do so before the end of this school year.
Pledges may be completed monthly or annually over as many as four years. Plaques on new auditorium seats are available for gifts of $1,000 and up, and names of donors giving $5,000 gifts will be recognized on a wall of the new building’s front lobby. Numerous additional Recognition Opportunities are available for Leadership Gifts of $10,000 and up. Through these opportunities, we aim to thank our loyal TJ families and at the same time allow generous companies to benefit from associating with the area’s leading secondary school. Completed Campaign pledge forms are accepted any time, and both gifts and multi-year pledges can now be made online.
Thank you for your support.
