TJ Community Celebrates Lunar New Year
The Campaign Brings the Community Together
On Saturday February 1, almost 250 members of the TJ community gathered at the famous China Garden Restaurant in Rosslyn for a full-course holiday banquet featuring a five-dish appetizer platter, lobster, and other traditional dishes, beer and wine, and dessert. Principal Glazer and Lab Directors addressed the audience. There were performances from several talented students, along with portraits, door prizes, and a raffle for an iPad Air donated by a generous parent. The event raised over $13,000 for the Campaign for TJ, and many parents expressed their wish that it could become an annual event.
From a Lab Director who attended the Celebration as our guest:
“Last night was particularly enjoyable. I spoke to the mother of a student who I had coached and taught. She graduated TJ in 2005, has since finished at Cornell and is now in a PhD Chemistry program at Stanford. Her mom was so excited to see me and talk of her daughter’s positive TJ experiences and continued successes beyond TJ. Another set of parents was excited to talk with me about their daughter’s enthusiasm to be continuing her long-standing passion for anthropology research using equipment in the Chemical Analysis Research Lab.
These experiences really do mean a lot to all of us and make a big difference in so many ways. Thank you for all that you are doing for our school community.”
