There are as Many Reasons to Support TJ as There are TJ Students
“In many ways, TJ has been the defining experience of our children’s lives. When our oldest chose TJ in 2008, we knew she would receive a wonderful education. What surprised us was the bonds she would form with staff and fellow students that allowed her to flourish as a person. She emerged from TJ prepared academically for anything college (and hopefully life) could throw at her, but more importantly she graduated with a confidence in who she is and the support of a band of brothers and sisters who loved her for it. The TJ magic has continued for our youngest, who continues to amaze us daily with her passion for excellence and her pride in giving back to the TJ community which has served our family so well. We are happy to join the Campaign as a way to help in some small part ensure that TJ is there to provide the same gifts for the families to come. And, oh yes, we did come for the sports . . . .”

“We were brought up with the understanding that one generation plants trees so the next will have shade . . .
We moved to Fairfax County from the midwest after our daughter’s freshman year. We were not so sure TJ was the right choice because not only was she not familiar with the GT/Magnet program, but also she was much younger than most of her classmates. She had been trying to avoid the ‘bright, smart’ and ‘nerd’ labels since third grade. Going to TJ as one of the ‘bright’ students without knowing anyone was quite frightening. What we did not know was that once she started at TJ she would soon discover that ‘I am as normal as everyone here . . . .’
We appreciate the learning environment that our community has provided at TJ. It helps students like our daughter feel comfortable being themselves. With this encouraging environment they can truly explore, learn, discover and become a contributor to our society, to the world . . . .”

“As a lifetime resident of Fairfax County and an early participant in the initial GT program for FCPS, I am thrilled to be supporting the Campaign for TJ. Renovations are long overdue for such a flagship institution. I am happy to contribute because I believe that schools like TJ are critical to the success of the next generation.
My daughter Megan, TJ ’10, is about to graduate from college while Sarah, TJ ’15, is in the midst of the renovations. The dedication of the faculty and the emphasis placed on academic excellence has provided both of my daughters with the resources and opportunities necessary to succeed in our competitive modern workforce. Their friendships with fellow students and relationships with faculty are a credit to the TJ community. TJ has been wonderful for my daughters, and I am happy to help make it even better for future students.”

“TJ is an extraordinary place for extraordinary people. Both of our children had wonderful experiences there. From a weekend on the Eastern Shore studying native flora & fauna to cutting-edge research directing a wheelchair using brain waves, from studying Colony Collapse Disorder in bees using the state-of-the-art equipment not available at any other high school to participating in very competitive team sports, TJ fostered learning and a love of learning in our children. We are proud to be a part of the TJ community and to give back to the school.”
